If you are using a browser, some data from websites is temporarily cached in the background. This allows the browser to partially use existing data from the cache and thus load the website faster. 


Depending on your settings, however, the cache can take up a considerable amount of memory on your computer over time. Furthermore, the browser often does not notice that there is already newer content on the website and instead loads the outdated files from the cache. Emptying the cache helps to eliminate these errors and causes web pages to load faster again, thus improving the performance of your PC.


In Chrome:

  • 1.     Click on the three-point menu in the upper right corner.
  • 2.     Click on "More tools" and then on "Clear browsing data".

  • 3.     Select the desired time period at the top or to delete everything, select "All time".
  • 4.     Check the boxes next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files".
  • 5.     Click on "Clear data
  • 6.     Close the settings. Any changes you make will be saved automatically.

You have now made all settings for your Chrome web browser. 

 

 

In Firefox:

  • 1.     Click on the menu button and select "Options".

  • 2.     Select the "Privacy & Security" section.
  • 3. Go to the "Cookies and Site Data" section and click the "Clear Data" button. The "Clear Data" dialog opens.


 

  • 4.     Uncheck the box next to "Cookies and Site Data".
  • 5.     Check the box next to "Cached Web Content" and click the "Clear" button.
  • 6.     Close the settings. Any changes you make will be saved automatically.

You have now made all settings for your Firefox web browser.  

 


In Microsoft Edge:

  • 1.     Click on the menu button and then on "Settings". 

  • 2.     Click on "Privacy, search and services" and scroll down to “Clear browsing data”. Click on “Choose what to clear”. 

  • 3.     Select the data types you want to remove. We recommend the data types marked in the screenshot below. 

  • 4.     Select "Clear now". 

 

You have now completed all settings for your Microsoft Edge web browser.  

 

In Safari:

  • 1.     Before the cache can be cleared manually, the developer menu must be unlocked. To do this, open the browser, click on "Safari" in the upper left corner and then on "Preferences".

  • 2.     Click on "Advanced" in the upper right corner of the Safari Preferences and then check the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" at the bottom.
  • 3.     Open "Develop" in the browser menu bar
  • 4.     A dropdown opens, please select "Empty Caches

  • 5.     You have now made all settings for your Microsoft Edge web browser.  

 

Internet Explorer 11:

Note: This web browser is obsolete. We advise against its use and recommend updating to the Mircrosoft Edge Browser.


1. Click on the cogwheel icon in the upper right corner and select "Internet Options

2. A new window opens. On the "General" tab, find the "Browsing history" section and click "Delete...". 

3. A new window opens again. Deactivate "Keep preferred website data" and activate "Temporary Internet files" and "Cookies". Finally, click on the "Delete" button.

 

You have now made all settings for your Internet Explorer web browser.
